Mathematical modelling of many problems in various branches of human knowledge leads to partial differential equations (PDE). That is specially true in Science and Engineering. So, finding solutions to PDEs is becoming even more necessary. Some problems can be solved by classical methods. However, many others can receive satisfactory answers only by using modern and sophisticated computational methods.
Nowdays, numerical methods for PDEs are object of growing attention and they are indispensable tools for scientists and engineers.
The course is essentially devoted to finite-difference methods for PDEs. Most important schemes for each type equation are provided and applied. Matlab programs are developed.
Finally, finite element method is introduced.
